Diving Silfra Tour

  • Unparalleled underwater visibility.
  • Dive between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates.
  • A dive where the water around you is perfectly drinkable.
  • The historic and dramatic Thingvellir national park.

The dive between the continents

Experience unmatched visibility in this one of a kind geological phenomenon as you swim between the Eurasian and American continental plates!
The Silfra dive tour begins with us meeting you at your accommodation in Reykjavík. On the hours drive to the Thingvellir National Park your guide will talk you through the unique geology and cultural history of Silfra and of the surrounding Thingvellir area.
Once we have arrived at the Silfra fissure, your guide will give a detailed briefing, describing the structure of the dive and layout of the site, aswell as the features which make Silfra so unique. We will then begin preparing the scuba equipment. We use only high quality BARE drysuits and undersuits combined with Aqualung and APEKS regulators and BCDs.
Once we are prepared it’s time to take the plunge into Silfra’s pristine, crystal clear water, filtered over decades by Iceland’s volcanic basalt rock. At any point on the dive you are able to remove your regulator and take a sip. You won’t find purer drinking water.
During our dive we will explore the four sections of Silfra. First we will pass through Big Crack, Silfra’s narrowest section. At this point we will have the opportunity to take the famous ‘Dive Between the Continents’ photo. We will then leave Big Crack and pass into the majestic Silfra Hall where the shear size and clarity of Silfra will become apparent. Leaving Silfra hall takes us another step closer to lake Thingvellir and into the Silfra Cathedral. We pass through the dramatic Silfra Cathedral between the towering walls of seperating continents and conclude the dive in the extraordinary visibility and dazzling neon blues and greens of the Silfra Lagoon. Leaving the water at the end of the lagoon we have a short walk back to our carpark to warm up with hot chocolate and cookies.
On this tour we will make one dive in Silfra and it will take about 30-40 minutes with a maximum depth of 18 meters.
If you have friends or family who are not certified divers but would also like to experience Silfra, they would be very welcome to join the Snorkelling Silfra Day Tour.
NOTE:
In order to join this tour you must have dry suit certification OR 10 logged dry suit dives within the last two years of tour date and be able to provide written proof from a diving instructor of these dry suit dives.
